Mr. Gamboa was born in Cali, Colombia. He studied for six years in the visual arts and received degrees from the Instituto Departamental de Atre y Cultura (1974) and the Servicio Nacional de Apredizaje (1976). Simultaneously he studied and performed music with special emphasis on the folkloric and traditional styles of South America.

In 1998 Mr. Gamboa and his family moved to Houston, Texas, USA, where he began to learn new rhythms and styles of music. He began working with Edward Grigassy and Latin Carnaval in 2000, bringing an invaluable perspective and authentic interpretation to the art and dance music performed by that group.

Mr. Gamboa has performed for audiences, as a soloist and in ensembles, in his home country of Colombia and throughout Texas and the United States. He has performed live and been featured on public radio in Colombia and Houston. Mr. Gamboa performs regularly in Texas, and he is currently based in the Houston / Katy metropolitan area.
